The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen
Pesticides, despite their role in protecting crops, harbor an alarming threat to our health. Studies have linked them to a range of diseases, including Alzheimer's Disease, cancer, ADHD, and birth defects. For instance, a study suggests that pesticides may contribute to the development of Alzheimer's, a debilitating neurological disorder. Pesticides can also be carcinogenic, potentially leading to cancer with prolonged exposure. Additionally, they can disrupt our endocrine system, affecting hormone balance, and increase the risk of birth defects and ADHD in children.
Posted below are the "dirty dozen" for produce that have the highest amount of pesticides to avoid or at least buy organic and the "clean fifiteen" that have the lowest amount of detectable pesticides.
While a single fruit with pesticides won’t kill, it can accumulate in the body over time and may result in long-term health issues. So, how do we protect ourselves from its harmful effects? By reducing our exposure (buy organic, avoid the dirty dozen) and eliminating it from our bodies.
